Allergies / Atopy

Atopy refers to the genetic tendency to develop allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma and atopic dermatitis (eczema). Atopy is typically associated with heightened immune responses to common allergens, especially inhaled allergens and food allergens.

Unusual reaction to harmless things, which doesn’t affect other people in same manner is called allergy. These substances are known as allergens such as dust mites, pets, pollen, insects, ticks, mold, foods, perfumes and some medications.

 

Symptoms:

Reaction to the allergens may include:

•   Eyes burning and watering 
•   Airways swelling up and difficulty breathing 
•   Skin irritation, reddening and swelling up
•   Stomach pain in case of ingestion
•   Dry cough
•   Itchy runny nose
•   Recurrent sore throat
•   Headaches
•   Facial pain
•   Sneezing

 

Treatment:

At RMI allergen-specific immunotherapy is provided which based on therapeutic vaccination with allergens. Where small amounts of allergens are injected regularly to reduce body’s reaction to it.
