Biomedical Engineering function combines the design and problem-solving skills with medical and biological sciences to improve healthcare diagnosis, monitoring and therapy in an ethically responsible manner. It focuses on revamping existing processes and continued improvement in quality of healthcare services. Basic objective of Biomedical Engineering function is to ensure optimum performance and minimize risk to its customers, employees and stakeholders.
Biomedical Engineering function holds the responsibility to provide cost effective solutions for healthcare technology, engineering services for clinical/medical devices operating through the Institute. The function has obligation for performing the following stated tasks:
- Tendering/commissioning of new equipment in conjunction with the end users and service/application providers
- Acquiring new modalities
- Service contract management
- Framing risk assessment plan for clinical equipment
- Budgetary management
- Data processing for medical devices
- Performing preventative maintenance
- and Conducting repairs of clinical equipment
