DESCRIPTION
This one-year fellowship programme is designed for those surgeons who wants get exposure & experience in complex Aortic and Vascular Surgery both open endovascular. All sorts of Aortic and vascular surgeries are being performed at RMI, Peshawar on regular basis. So, we invite all surgeons who have completed their Postgraduate training in Cardiac, Vascular or Thoracic Surgery and wish to learn Advanced Aortic and Vascular surgeries.

FCPS/MS completed in Cardiac, Vascular or Thoracic Surgery
CORRICULLUM
Within Vascular Surgery, the syllabus is presented as topics, each with objectives incorporating the knowledge, clinical and technical skills required to deliver the Vascular Surgery Day-one consultant. The delivery of the objectives will be developed through the two phases of training and assessed within the CiPs and GPCs high-level outcomes. In addition, to ensure the appropriate procedural and clinical competence, there are nominated index procedures that will require assessment through PBAs and critical conditions that will require assessment through CBDs or CEXs as appropriate. Other than for the critical conditions, index procedures or where they have been identified to address a concern, WBAs are optional for formative feedback and, therefore, trainees do not need to use WBAs to evidence learning against each syllabus topic. The delivery of the training of all components of the Vascular Surgery curriculum will be quality assessed by the Vascular Surgery Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC). The Curriculum has been agreed in collaboration with the specialty of Interventional Radiology, within the Royal College of Radiologists, with agreement to deliver the endovascular training alongside Vascular Surgery, utilizing a collaborative working model to the benefit of the trainees in both specialties, so promoting the MDT working of day-one consultants. The syllabus objectives are the guide to the breadth and specifics of the indicative knowledge and skills required to acquire certification within Vascular Surgery.

OBJECTIVES
Graduates of the Fellowship will be well trained academic advanced aortic and vascular surgeons, capable of participating in and leading a similar multidisciplinary, collaborative team at their own institution. The Fellowship will provide the trainee with knowledge and technical skills in the preoperative evaluation and planning, operative management (open and endovascular), postoperative care and follow up of adult patients with Aortic aneurysms and dissections & other vascular diseases which require surgical interventions.
The Fellow will learn the value of a multidisciplinary approach to these complex patients and will be able to work in a similar environment at their own institution. The Fellowship takes place in an academic environment and research training is provided and productivity is expected and an important part of the Fellowship.
RESEARCH
A research project(s) are a mandatory component of the Fellowship. There are opportunities for basic science and clinical research and a project will be selected by each Fellow with the guidance of the Co-Program Directors and Fellowship Research Coordinator. The Fellow is expected to present and publish his/her work at national and international scientific meetings and peer reviewed journals. The Fellow’s research project will run concurrently with clinical training throughout the one-year Fellowship. Completion of the research project is mandatory.
EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
- Fellow will be responsible for attending all the academic activities in the department that includes journal club, Morbidity & Mortality meetings.
- The fellow occasionally will be responsible for presentation of cases at multidisciplinary meetings if he/she was involved in the case.
- Fellow will be responsible for attending the outpatient clinic to gain the knowledge about the diseases and educate the patients as well.
- Fellow will be responsible for the On Call duties assigned to them according to monthly roaster of department.

Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) offers a comprehensive training program in cardiothoracic collaboration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). Led by our Consultant and Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Azam Jan, the program is designed to provide a balanced education in the treatment of cardiothoracic and vascular diseases.
The program builds on the pioneering work of Prof. Dr. Rehman, who has vast teaching experience and has remained an examiner at the College of Physicians and Surgeons since 1990. He organized fellowships in cardiac surgery from the CPSP, training 21 FCPS cardiac surgeons. At RMI, we are proud to have consistently ranked among the top hospitals in the country for providing exceptional services and training programs in the field of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. Our alumni are spread all over the world and work in renowned hospitals, and patients come from all over Pakistan seeking our expertise.

How to apply
If you're interested in joining our program, we welcome applications from candidates who have completed a two-year general surgery residency training program. Successful candidates are selected based on the PGMI merit list, and another track of coming to cardiac surgery RMI without PGMI can also be opted by submitting details to the dean's office and emailing Prof. Dr. Azam Jan.
Applicants considered eligible for the training program will be invited for an interview, providing an opportunity to visit the institution and meet with the faculty and residents. Each applicant will be interviewed by faculty members and will have an opportunity to chat with the current residents and learn about the hospital's state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge research.
