Azam Jan MD. is head of Department at RMI  and Is a world renowned cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon.

Dr. Azam Jan did his medical degree from the prestigious The Aga Khan University. During medical school, he was actively involved in academic research and presented his work both at national and international level. As a student he worked in the surgery Dept. of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is board certified by American Boards of specialities. He did his cardiac surgery at the world’s famous Houston Methodist De Bakey Heart & Vascular Center named after Dr. Michael E. De Bakey, a pioneer in heart surgery.

The American Board of Cardio Thoracic Surgery Diplomates have been trained in critical care management of cardio thoracic surgical patients . Cardio Thoracic Surgery encompasses the surgical critical care of patients with acquired and by birth pathologic conditions within the chest. Included are the surgical repair of congenital and acquired conditions of the heart, including the pericardium, coronary arteries, valves, great vessels and myocardium.

Vascular surgery is a specialty of surgery in which diseases of the blood vessels( arteries and veins,)are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. Dr Azam Jan was mentored in Aortic surgery by world renowned Dr H. Safi and his team in Houston texas, USA. Dr Safi himself a legendary surgeon, was trained by Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, and was an associate of  Dr. E. Stanley Crawford. He took aortic surgery to a level that was unprecedented before. Similarly the other aspects of vascular surgery were mastered at the Vascular department in West Virginia university where Dr Azam Jan worked for 5 years.

Another speciality is Chest(thoracic )surgery. Thoracic Surgery encompasses the surgical care of patients with conditions within the chest. Thoracic surgery  includes conditions of the lung, esophagus and chest wall, tumors of the mediastinum, and diseases of the diaphragm and pericardium. Dr. Azam Jan did his training at number 1 ranked hospital in USA , University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and The Methodist hospital.MD Anderson Cancer Centres.

Dr. Azam Jan has an active interest in research. His clinical interests include cardiovascular diseases and its treatment in a developing country, treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus, lung, mediastinum, diaphragm and chest wall. He specializes in minimally invasive procedures, such as VATS lobectomy and minimally invasive valve surgeries. He has a special interest in heart failure surgery including Heart transplant and ventricular assist devices.
