RMI's Physical Therapy Elective Program Empowers Undergraduates

RMI's Physical Therapy Department organised a comprehensive elective program for undergraduate students from various institutes across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The program, an integral part of the annual clinical training, focused on enriching students' clinical skills and providing valuable hands-on experience.

Spanning four weeks, the elective program offered an opportunity for students to gain practical exposure in both the inpatient and outpatient departments of RMI. The participating students were able to witness and contribute to a wide range of clinical cases, including musculoskeletal injuries, neurological disorders, cardiopulmonary conditions, and orthopedic surgeries. This exposure enabled them to broaden their knowledge of pathologies and refine their clinical skills.

The program's primary objective was to empower students with practical experience that complements their theoretical knowledge. By immersing themselves in real-life clinical scenarios, the students were able to apply their theoretical understanding of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics. They witnessed firsthand the positive impact of physical therapy interventions, such as therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, electrotherapy modalities, and gait training, on patients' lives.

The elective program provides a platform for aspiring physical therapists to bridge the gap between theory and practice. By engaging in real patient interactions, they can develop critical thinking skills and learn to provide personalized care tailored to each patient's unique needs. Under the supervision of experienced physical therapists, the participants had the opportunity to observe and actively engage in treatment sessions, rehabilitation exercises, and patient assessments, including evaluating range of motion, muscle strength, balance, and functional mobility.

At the conclusion of the program, the students received certificates acknowledging their successful completion of the elective. RMI's Physical Therapy Department hopes that this practical exposure will serve as a foundation for the students' future endeavors in the field of physical therapy and contribute to their professional growth, preparing them to become competent practitioners in areas such as orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and geriatrics.
