RMI experts lead 'prevention of heart disease: a governor's initiative'

A distinguished gathering convened at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor House to address the critical issue of cardiovascular disease, a silent epidemic impacting populations globally. The "Prevention of Heart Disease: A Governor's Initiative" focused on raising public awareness about this major public health concern.

Led by Prof. Dr. Miqdad Ali Khan, HOD & Consultant Cardiologist at RMI, the session featured a multidisciplinary approach, with esteemed experts from RMI contributing their valuable insights. Dr. Nabil Iftikhar, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, Nida Muhammad, Dietitian, Dr. Aiman Wahan, Physical Therapist, and Dr. Mohsin Shabir, Senior Registrar Cardiology, each addressed crucial aspects of cardiovascular health within their respective domains. 

The presentations urged the importance of a holistic approach to prevention, encompassing dietary modifications, regular physical activity, stress management, and early detection through screening and diagnostic procedures.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, graced the occasion and emphasized the urgent need to promote healthy lifestyle choices within our society. He underscored the significance of collaborative efforts between public and private institutions in organizing similar awareness campaigns to address this pressing public health challenge.

"Building a healthier society necessitates a collective effort from all stakeholders," Governor Kundi stated. "Ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services for all citizens is paramount." He further highlighted the pivotal role of modern research and technological advancements in combating cardiovascular diseases.

The event was well-attended by prominent figures in the medical community, including Prof. Dr. Miqdad Ali Khan, Head of the Cardiology Department at Rahman Medical Institute (RMI), Prof. Dr. Azam Jan, Head of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Department, Dr. Chiragh Hussain, Associate Professor at Hayat Medical Complex, along with esteemed cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, heart disease specialists, doctors, and medical students.

This initiative serves as a crucial step towards fostering a heart-healthy society by empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools to adopt preventive measures and reduce their risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
