Rehman Medical Institute Hosts International WFNS Global Neurosurgery Conference

The inaugural International WFNS Global Neurosurgery Conference concluded at Rehman Medical Institution (RMI) on Friday, marking a milestone in the field of neurosurgery.

The two-day event organized of RMI Neurosurgery Department attracted distinguished neurologists from across Pakistan, as well as international experts from Qatar and Dubai, who delivered insightful lectures and provided training to young neurosurgeons.

Under the leadership of Dr. Naveed Zaman Akhundzada, Head of the Department and Consultant Neurosurgeon at RMI, the conference showcased a diverse range of presentations covering crucial topics in neurosurgery. These included Neurotrauma/Neurorehabilitation, Neuro Oncology, Spine, Vascular/Stroke and ICH, Infections, Congenital Anomalies and Pediatrics, Peripheral Nerves, and Functional Neurosurgery.

Discussing the significance of the conference, Dr. Akhundzada stated that the two-day pre-conference activities were leading up to the World Federation of Neurosurgery Conference, making its debut in Pakistan. He added that the active participation of leading neurosurgeons from all corners of the country contributed to the success of the event at RMI.

During the conference, attendees engaged in discussions on new challenges, complexities, and innovative solutions within the field of neurosurgery. Dr. Akhundzada noted that the event also addressed novel concepts specific to neurosurgery in both developed and developing countries.

As part of the conference, a specialized boot camp provided training to over 50 young neurologists through simulations and practical sessions. Notable participants included representatives Syed Ather Enam, Scientific Director at Aga Khan University, Dr. Ali Ayyad, and various neurology experts from Pakistan.

Dr. Akhundzada stated that RMI's neurosurgery department has emerged as a leader in the field, providing state-of-the-art treatments and successfully performing surgical procedures that were once exclusively carried out in developed nations.

Dr Sirajul Haq, Registrar RMI Neurosurgery department said that the successful International WFNS Global Neurosurgery Conference at RMI underscores Pakistan's growing prominence in the global neurosurgical community. Haq added the event not only facilitated knowledge exchange but also positioned RMI as a hub for cutting-edge advancements in neurosurgery.
