Transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary adenomas

  • Transsphenoidal literally means “through the sphenoid sinus.” It is a surgery performed through the nose and sphenoid sinus to remove pituitary tumors.
  • It is the most common way to remove pituitary tumors. 
  • Most people who have transsphenoidal surgery will have a sinus headache and congestion for up to a week or two after surgery.
