Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is less common type of cancer which develops and affects the thyroid glands.   
 

Causes   
  • In most of the cases, the cause of thyroid cancer is unknown 
  • When cells in the thyroid undergo genetic changes


 
 

Symptoms 

In the early stages the signs and symptoms are not visible but with the passage of time the cancer grows and shows some signs and symptoms. 

  • Lump in the neck and it can be felt through its skin 
  • Difficulty in swallowing food 
  • Pain in the neck and throat 

 

Treatment
  • Surgery such as lymph node dissection, thyroid lobectomy, and thyroidectomy 
  • Thyroid hormone therapy 
  • Radioactive iodine  
  • Chemotherapy  
  • External radiation therapy 
  • Supportive (Palliative) care 
  • Alcohol injections into the cancer 
  • Targeted drug therapy
