Pituitary Apoplexy

Pituitary apoplexy in a medical terminology is a disorder which indicates cerebral haemorrhage or other nervous system disorders.    
 

 Causes
  •  Bleeding in pituitary  
  • Blocked blood flow to the pituitary 
  • Sheehan syndrome in females  
  • High blood pressure 
  • Head injury 
  • Medications sucha s blood thinning  
  • Radiation therapy to the pituitary gland 
  • Major surgery like heart surgery

 

Symptoms  
  • Vomiting  
  • Nausea   
  • Blurry vision 
  • Visual field impairment 
  • Severe headache 
  • Paralysis which affects the eye 
  • Decreased consciousness 
Treatment
  • Cortisol replacement therapy 
  • Surgical and non –surgical management
