Hypogonadism

When the sex glands in the body produces less or more sex hormones. This medical condition is known as hypogonadism.     
 

Causes
  • Addison’s disease 
  • Hyperparathyroidism 
  • Genetic disorders such as Turner Syndrome and Klinefelter Syndrome 
  • Mumps involving the testes 
  • Kidney and liver diseases 
  • Hemochromatosis 
  • Exposure to radiation 
  • Surgery of sexual organs 
  • Brain surgery 
  • Injury to pituitary gland or hypothalamus 

 

Symptoms 

Signs and Symptoms in females

 

  • Milky discharge from breasts 
  • Menstruation irregularity  
  • Absent growth of breasts 
  • Loss of hair from the body  
  • Sex drive is either slow or absent  

Signs and Symptoms in male 

  • Loss of muscle 
  • Infertility  
  • Difficulty in concentration 
  • Erectile dysfunction 
  • Low or absent sex drive  
  • Growth of breasts  


 

Treatment

Treatment for females 

Estrogen therapy 
Low doses of testosterone 
Injections of the hormone human choriogonadotropin  
Pills containing FSH to trigger ovulation 

Treatment for male
