Hypercalcemia

When the level of calcium is higher in the blood, this state is known as hypercalcemia.   
 

Causes 
  • Overproduction of parathyroid hormones 
  • Lung Cancer and breast cancer are common cancer in hypercalcemia 
  •  Failure of kidney 
  • Medications such as thiazide diuretics 
  • Inherited kidney diseases  
  • Excessive Vitamin D level  
  • Dehydration  

 

Symptoms 
  • Excessive thirst 
  • Frequent urination 
  • Nausea and Vomiting  
  • Constipation 
  • Pain in bones 
  • Muscle weakness 
  • Fatigue and weakness 
  • Confusion 
  • Depression 
  • Heart problems like palpitations and cardiac arrhythmia  
Treatment
  • Watch waiting 
  • Medications such as calcitonin, Calcimmetics, Bisphosphonates, Denosumab, Prednisone, IV fluids and diuretics 
  • Surgery
