Heart Block

Heart block is a condition where the heart beats more slowly or with an abnormal rhythm. It's caused by a problem with the electrical pulses that control the rhythm and rate of the heart.  There are two types of heart blocks depending on the symptoms: first-degree heart block (mobitz type 1), second degree heart block ( mobitz type 2) and third degree heart block.

Symptoms

First-degree heart block

  • No noticeable symptoms

Second-degree heart block

  • Mild light-headedness or dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  •  Low blood pressure (hypotension)

 

Third-degree heart block

  • fainting 
  • breathlessness
  • extreme tiredness (fatigue

  • having a slow heart beat (bradycardia
Diagnosis
  • An electrocardiogram (ECG)   
Treatment
  • Transcutaneous Pacing (TCP)
  • a permanent pacemaker
