Growth Hormone Deficiency

Growth hormone deficiency is characterised by in which the anterior pituitary gland is unable to secrete enough growth hormones in the body.    
 

Causes 
  • Head injury  
  • Tumour in head  
  • History of pituitary tumours 
  • Brain surgery 
  • Poor blood supply to the pituitary gland 
  • Radiation treatments to the brain  
  • Hormonal problems related to the hypothalamus gland or pituitary gland 

 

Symptoms 
  • Children ( Short stature, micro penis, increased fat, high pitched voice, propensity to hypoglycaemia)  
  • Adults( Reduced lean body mass, Delayed puberty, absenteeism to secondary male and female characteristics, reduced bone strength, tiredness, fatigue, lack of stamina , depression, lack of concentration, emotional distress)

  • Growth hormone therapy 
  • Counselling  
  • Healthy and active lifestyle
