Diabetic foot ulcer is a sore or wound on the bottom of the foot. It is usually caused by uncontrolled diabetes.
Symptoms:
• Redness on feet
• Warm or swollen feet
• Break in the skin or discharge
• Itching
• Dryness
• Pain and stiffness
• Feeling unwell
• Ulcers or blisters
• Sore feet
Causes:
• Poor blood circulation
• High blood sugar (hyperglycaemia)
• Nerve damage
• Irritated or wounded feet
Treatments:
• Clean your ulcer daily.
• Keep your ulcer bandaged or cover it with a wounded dressing
• Keep pressure off your ulcer, especially if it’s on your foot
• Use the tropical medications your doctor recommends
• Keep your blood sugar under control
• Don’t smoke
• Don’t walk barefoot
