Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is a collection of genetic disorders that effect the adrenal gland located above the kidney.

 

Symptoms:

•  Classic Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia  
•  Appearance of pubic hair at an early stage in children and adults  
•  Rapid growth during childhood 
•  Shorter final average height  
•  Non-Classic Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia  
•  Irregular menstrual periods  
•  Appearance of facial hairs, excessive body hairs and voice resembles with male gender 
•  Severe acne  
•  Rapid growth  
•  Shorter final average height

 

Causes:

Lack of enzyme known as 21 hydroxylase.

 

Treatments:

•  Use of hydrocortisone  
•  Use of steroids  
•  Intake of salt  
•  Reconstructive surgery  
•  Prenatal treatment
